33rd Annual REALTORS® Thanksgiving Food Drive

HARRISBURG, PA (Nov. 22, 2019) – Following several months of planning and several weeks of collecting, the Greater Harrisburg REALTORS® Foundation hosted its Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive Distribution Day on November 22nd. The Foundation serves as the charitable arm of the Greater Harrisburg Association of REALTORS® (GHAR) and provides housing-related service to the community. This year is the 33rd year for the Food Drive. On Friday at the GHAR office, REALTORS® and Affiliate members distributed 1,000 turkeys and Karns Foods gift cards to organizations in the greater Harrisburg community.

Contributions have been collected by member REALTOR® firms and Affiliate firms throughout the fall. The contributions were designed to provide a complete Thanksgiving dinner, including turkey and trimmings, for a less fortunate family.

Thanks to the generosity of REALTORS® and Affiliate members, the Foundation was able to distribute turkeys and gift cards to feed 1,000 greater Harrisburg area families.

Karen Detwiler, Thanksgiving Food Drive Chair, is astounded by the fact that people are still facing food insecurity in the United States and it is happening right here in our community. “This has been our goal for several years and it was finally achieved! For 33 years we have provided meals to senior citizens, families with children, and those who have been displaced. It is sad there is such a need in our community, but we are grateful that we are able to help make a difference in the lives of members of our community this Thanksgiving”.

Two dozen organizations picked up the turkeys and gift cards to distribute them to less fortunate families: True Deliverance Holiness Church of God, The New Hope Living Baptist Church, Martin Luther King Baptist Church, First Zion Baptist Church, Way of the Cross Church of the Living God, Millennium Neighborhood Church, Hummelstown Ministries, New Hope Ministries, The Salvation Army Harrisburg Capital Region, City of Refuge Church,

Gaudenzia DELTA Community, Upper Dauphin Human Services, Cumberland County Children and Youth, Antioch Tabernacle, Zion Lutheran Church, NE Fire & Rescue 2, Perry County Food Bank, Fountain Gate Church and Ministries, Loaves of Love 2nd City Church, Neighborhood Center of the United Methodist Church, Harrisburg Housing Authority, Bethuel Temple Church of Christ Apostolic, and New Beginnings Worship Center.

GHAR wishes to give a special thank you to Karns Foods for assisting with the turkeys and the gift cards for the Food Drive.

In addition to the generous contributions from REALTORS® and Affiliate member firms, thank you to our Food Drive sponsors: A Plus Mortgage Solutions, Inc.; Fulton Mortgage Company; Geo. W.
