REALTORS® foundation awards two grants

ENOLA, PA (Dec. 16, 2019) – The Greater Harrisburg Association of REALTORS® Foundation awarded two grants to local charitable organizations during the Annual Holiday Luncheon on Friday, Dec. 13. Over 250 REALTORS® and affiliate members attended.

Isabel Warrell of NextHome Capital Realty, the 2019 Foundation President, had the honor of facilitating the grant presentation on behalf of the Foundation. Two grants, each worth $2,000, were presented to Kimberly Hutnik and Elizabeth Mihmet of Hospice of Central PA and Denise Britton, Donna Shuler, Chris Green and Carol Green of Shalom House.

In the greater Harrisburg area, Hospice of Central PA, through Carolyn’s House, provides 24-hour care to individuals who are unable to remain at home or do not have a home. They offer this valuable residential hospice service when personal choices or medical needs make other care options difficult. Warrell shared, “this check from our Foundation will help provide 24-hour care at Carolyn’s House to those in need”.

Since 1986, Shalom House follows Sister Patricia Brennan’s concern over the safety of homeless women and children sleeping on the streets of Allison Hill in Harrisburg, as they provided 119 women and 76 children a safe home during 2018. Shalom House has become increasingly focused on life skill classes and growth opportunities as they connect clients with programs, services, and professional qualified volunteer mentors.

“As REALTORS®, we appreciate what you do to assist individuals with housing. Please accept this check to help meet the ongoing demands to provide a bed, assistance with meals, clothing and life coaching efforts that are necessary to facilitate a pathway to independence for women and children in need,” Warrell announced.

The Foundation also held a donation drive benefitting Community CARES at the Annual Holiday Lunch. REALTORS® and affiliate members who attended brought paper products and household cleaning products as donations for the organization, as well as monetary donations. Community CARES serves and strengthens the community by providing emergency shelter, resources, and supportive services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

The mission of the Greater Harrisburg Association of REALTORS® Foundation is to financially support non-profit charitable organizations with a housing and shelter-related focus which enrich the quality of life and support the human need of the Greater Harrisburg community. Since 1993, when the Foundation was formally organized, the Foundation has given an impressive $728,000 to local charities”.

Over the years, the Association and its Foundation have been involved in numerous community projects, various community revitalization and clean-up projects, scholarship drives and personal care drives. In recent years, the Foundation has shifted its focus to fundraising to support non-profit organizations in the Harrisburg area.
